The Weight Loss Twins weighed into the show at 361lbs and 334lbs. Jim and Bill had been heavy guys since they were kids. The Weight Loss Twin's pop, George, was a big man as well and had died from obesity related diseases when they were young. In spite of this, Jim was an active guy, a dedicated fire-fighter and cop who enjoyed messing around and play with his children. He didn't see his own size was a large obstacle. His other half, Val, was a big woman as well. Just like plenty of folks, they loved to eat. As Jim remarks, when you get to 295lbs you come to accept your obesity and keep on piling on the pounds..
That's until the moment when your weight begins to stand in the way of your family's happiness! It was when his 16 year old son, a keen eagle scout, eventually got himself and his pop accepted on an exciting adventure trip, that Jim suddenly saw his obesity was potentially a big obstacle. When they were participating in a rigorous training session, when the coach found out that Jim weighed over 300lbs, he had to ban father and son from the trip. It transpired that the helicopters weren't able to evacuate anyone with a weight of over 250lbs. His son was so sad he was in tears on the way back. He loved Jim but he understood that his father had let him down. As far as Jim was concerned this was a wake-up call, his "Ahaa moment" and he made up his mind to do something about it - by becoming one of the Weight Loss Twins.

The Weight Loss Twins - Jim Germanakos
The father of the famous Weight Loss Twins, George Germanakos, used to tell his sons, "The only way to get something done is to get it started." You can imagine how overjoyed and proud he would have been if he had lived long enough to see his twin sons, Bill and Jim, exercise and diet their journey to victory on series 4 of the extremely popular NBC weight-loss series The Biggest Loser. You'll be surprised to hear, it wasn't always just like that, although Jim Germanakos has traditionally been a great avid viewer of the television show. Jim's a NY cop and a huge family man. Up to a couple of years before, when his shifts allowed, he would sit on the settee before the TV munching away on high-cal comfort snacks, soaked up by the stories of the weight loss contestants, but not really concerned about his own 295lb ever growing waistline. However that was prior to his own "ahaa" time, prior to when he was one of the Weight Loss Twins and an inspiration to us all!
